PeopleBridge vs Homebase · 2026

The honest <em>"Homebase alternative"</em> review for 2026.

You're here because Homebase isn't quite working. Maybe the pricing climbed past three locations. Maybe the Toast integration was thinner than expected. Here's the practical operator's comparison — including which alternatives we actually recommend, and the cases where staying on Homebase is the right call.

The honest takeaway

Pick PeopleBridge if…

  • You run 2+ locations and Homebase per-location pricing stings
  • You're on Toast and want full tip pool + tax reports
  • You want photo capture + time rounding without the Plus upgrade
  • You want every feature and all AI included (not Homebase's separate AI tier)
  • You can live with a PWA (we install on home screen, work offline)

Pick Homebase if…

  • You're a single-location operator with unlimited employees on Homebase's ongoing free tier
  • Native iOS / Android app distribution is non-negotiable for your team
  • You're a nonprofit and the 50% Homebase discount beats our 10%
  • You're deeply invested in Homebase Payroll and don't want to switch payroll providers

Common questions

Is PeopleBridge the only Homebase alternative worth considering?
No — we want to be honest: 7shifts is genuinely strong for single-restaurant operators (more tip distribution variants than us, native apps). When I Work works well for non-restaurant SMB with 5–15 employees. Sling (now Toast Payroll & Team) is the default many Toast operators land on. PeopleBridge is the strongest pick if you're multi-location restaurants on Toast, but it's not the only option.
Why are 2+ location operators specifically leaving Homebase?
Homebase prices per location. The Plus plan needed for tip pooling + photo capture + time rounding runs roughly $99.95/location/mo. At 3 locations that's $300/mo before any HR add-ons. PeopleBridge is one simple plan — $1 per active employee/mo + $10 per location/mo with every feature included — so 3 locations with 30 employees is $60/mo total vs Homebase's ~$300.
What does Homebase do better than PeopleBridge?
Three real things: (1) Native iOS and Android apps — we're a PWA. (2) Homebase Payroll is a native payroll service; we export to Gusto/ADP/QuickBooks/Paychex but don't run payroll ourselves. (3) Homebase's ongoing free tier supports unlimited employees on 1 location, vs our first-month-free period for up to 10. If any of those matter more than the cost gap, Homebase fits better.
How long does migration take?
Roughly one week for an independent operator. Export your roster from Homebase as CSV (Settings → Team → Export). Upload to PeopleBridge via Settings → People → Import. Names, emails, phones, pay rates, locations come over. Toast OAuth takes 10 minutes. Rebuild your first week's schedule. Most teams are live by the following Monday.
I'm on Homebase free. Should I switch?
Maybe — both let you start free. Switch when one of these is true: (a) you've added a second location and Homebase wants to charge per-location, (b) you need tip pool calculation and don't want the Plus upgrade, or (c) you're on Toast and want the deeper POS integration. At $1 per active employee/mo + $10 per location/mo with everything included, the math usually favors switching once you pass one location.

Trial both. See for yourself.
